Be specific and inquire in specific situations:

  • Emergency medical services
  • Hospitalization
  • Transfers of family to visit you
  • Transport to hospital
  • Lost Luggage

It is of interest to know and understand the small print of your insurance, some companies require to be called and reported to right at the time of the event. If any other insurance company has been involved that might not be able to reimburse you for expenses that are consequences of another illness, accident or loss. Other companies will only cover periods under one month, you may find yourself without coverage and not know it!

Tips for travelers

  • Discuss the topic of money: what do you cover and what you do not cover. Is there some important additional expense to budget? Our advice is to speak about it before,
  • Prepare a present for the family that is inviting a member of your family (a gift from your country: for example, a book is always a nice touch ....)
  • Be generous with your time, share as much as possible with your host.
  • Treat your host as you like to be treated.
  • Mention topics such as daily chores, meals, schedules… offer to help.
  • Find out if the host will be with the guest during the day. If they work and are away, it is better to search for a school, a language, art, sport program the host can attend during the day to avoid idle hours. Confirm if this implies an expense and who will cover it.
  • The guest has make the effort to fit in with the host environment and collaborate.
  • The guest should not be isolated with phones, tablets, etc. It's the worst thing to do because it can be interpreted as an insult to the host .
